As the weather warms up and the rain keeps coming down, expect to see more and more of our 8 legged friends as they seek higher, drier ground.

To keep your property free from springtime spiders, we recommend getting the experts in. Don’t simply remove spider webs prior to treatment – they indicate areas where treatment should be focused. They also play a part of the control process.

We apply a long term solution to the webs, cracks and crevices, and surfaces of the building to ensure that all areas the spiders occupy are targeted. Webs should be left in place for a few days before being brushed away.

When it comes to the spiders themselves, the majority of house spiders in Sydney are harmless. Black House spiders are the most common around the home, making webs under the eaves and around window sills. These spiders along with White-tailed, Huntsman and Wolf spiders can bite you, but apart from some pain, itchiness and possibly swelling around the bite, you don’t have much to worry about.

Female Redbacks and Funnel Webs on the other hand are more cause for concern. If a bite from one of these species is suspected then medical attention should be sought. For Funnel Web bites, a pressure bandage should be applied immediately.

If it eases your mind, its important to note that nobody has died from a spider bite in Australia for over 40 years!
